The Inhabited Space, Sean Rocha
Curated by Jhaveri Contemporary
This collection of photographs explores how urban space is inhabited around the world. Cities though built environments, are rarely built by their residents giving people little power to define the space around them. Buildings constructed by architects, landmarks determined by history, and neighbors placed by chance. Yet within this inherited density, urbanites remake the inanimate materials to reflect their presence. They seek solitude in unclaimed or neglected spaces: a dusty wall leaving traces of long-removed family portraits, a moment’s contemplation beneath the shade of a tree. In this way, cities take on life and begin to breathe.
